Bought this drive so my girlfriend would have a mac compatible drive that came with the right firewire cables, but could also connect with usb to my desktop PC… The only reason i gave 4 stars instead of 5 is that the only way this drive can be used with both PC and MAC at the same time is by reformatting the drive upon receival to a FAT 32 format… this isn’t very hard, but its a bit of an inconvenience and on top of that it also knocks the drive from 4 ninety something gigs to only 471, anddddd you can’t load a single file any larger than 4.1GB… THis doesn’t mean you can’t load 300GB of music files, just that no single file can be bigger than 4.1… this is a big annoyance for me in particular when trying to transfer some blu-ray movies ranging from 4.7 to 10.1GB in size and i kept getting an error…. Won’t affect most people but just read all the instructions on the G-tech website before buying this…

The other option i found out is using a program called MacDrive to open the drive on a PC… there are places to download it as a torrent, and you can buy it but 49.99 is a bit steep just to be able to access the drive on a PC…

    Great drive otherwise!

I got this drive to replace a larger, less portable version of the 500 GB G-Drive. I love the fact that it doesn’t require wall current to run…just plug it in to the computer you are uploading to/downloading from. It comes with 3 different combo cables, too: new firewire to new firewire, new firewire to old firewire and usb. The only problem I had with this drive is the new firewire to new firewire cable. My macbook pro would register the drive and then it would drop off so I couldn’t write to or from the drive. Not sure if it’s a problem with the cable, the drive or the port on my computer, though. All in all an awesome drive!
